Tennessee had a birth and death certificate law for a short time from 1908 through 1912. These certificates did not include as much information as did later birth and death certificates. There were no birth or death certificates in 1913. A new law was then passed, and since 1914 both birth and death certificates in Tennessee have been more or less in their modern form.

This Bryan family was unrelated to mine. They were from North Carolina rather than from Virginia, and they lived in Wear's Valley rather than Dumplin Valley. William's wife was Julia E. Conner. |
