I don't fully understand this case. Apparently, Sarah Rector's father was Louis Rector Sr. (deceased). Apparently, Louis Rector Sr. and Elijah Cross had some dealings about some land in Anderson County. It appears that Louis owned or otherwise had in interest in the land. Elijah was managing the land in Louis's absence, and Louis had not received the amount of money he expected to receive from Elijah.

    Depositions of Pemberton Gatewood
witness for the Plaintiff in the above named
Cause, taken on the 12th day of May 1875
at Cleburne, Johnson County Texas in
presence of G.H. Maxey Clerk of the District
Court of said Johnson County.
    The witness Pemberton Gatewood aged
Sixty Six years being duly Sworn deposes
and says

1. To Interrogatory first Witness says --
I reside in Johnson County Texas and my
age is Sixty Six years.

2. To Interrogatory second Witness says --
Yes, I know him, --  He died in St. Francis
County Arkansas in the month of
September 1867  --  there are now two
living  --  Sarah about seventeen years
and Louis Rector some 13 years.  He left
no will.

3. To Interrogatory Third he Answers --
After he left Prison he moved to
Bristow Station, Warren County, Kentucky

I believe that Pemberton Gatewood was speaking of Louis Rector Sr. deceased, father of Sarah and Louis Jr.

and from there he went to the State of
Arkansas, St. Francis County, where
he died.

4. Interrogatory fourth He answers --
Yes, I have been acquainted with him
sometimes and until the Spring of the year
1862.

5. Interrogatory fifth -- He answers --
While we lived in St. Francis County, Arks
Elijah Cross wrote to Louis Rector about
his land and said that he could get $100
rent for the land a year,
Rector wanted $200 rent.  My advice to
him was to take $100.  I am of opinion
that he did agree to take the $100.  But
I am not certain  --  at all events he
got no money.

6. Interrogatory sixth -- he Answers --
I saw and read and Rector read to me the letter -- Lizzie put it with
others in a sack and they were all destroyed
by mice.  It was a proposition made
by Cross (for others) to rent the lands in
Tennessee at $100. a year.
And further this deponent Saith not.
