Clauda was reared by her grandparents, Peter H. Bryan and Mary Ann Cate. There
is considerable mystery associated with an infant's grave at the Bryan-Drinnen-Cate
Cemetery. The tombstone gives a date for the infant of J.A. and C.L. Underwood
as 27 April 1923. But this is four years after the death of Clauda Lee Bryan
Underwood. Clauda Lee Bryan and John Amos Underwood were married on 15 Dec
1901 in Sevier County, Tennessee.186

Clauda Lee Bryan and John Amos Underwood had the following children:
+1017 | i. | Gladys
L. Underwood. | +1018 | ii. | Cleo Bryan Underwood. | 1019 | iii. | Carol Underwood. | +1020 | iv. | William Raymond (Bill) Underwood. | 1021 | v. | (Infant) Underwood245 was born on 27 Apr 1923 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
(Infant) Underwood died on 27 Apr 1923 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
(Infant) Underwood was buried after 27 Apr 1923 in Bryan-Drinnen-Cate Cemetery,
Sevier County, Tennessee. The date on this infant's stone is four
years after the death of the mother who is listed on the stone. I can only conclude
that the date on the stone is incorrect, or that the mother's name is incorrect.
The latter is certainly possible because John Amos Underwood's second wife was
Lola Helen Bryan. Lola Helen Bryan was Clauda Lee Bryan's first cousin, and
both of them were granddaughters of Peter H. Bryan and Mary Ann Cate. The infant
was buried next to Peter H. Bryan and Mary Ann Cate. |
