Elizabeth Cate Manly and William Jackson Bryan give Lucy E. Bryan's birth date as 1 December 1831. RJP gives the birth date as 1838. The 1838 date corresponds to the census data. I am taking the liberty of listing the birth date as 1 December 1838 pending further research. The December birth date indicates that Lucy's birthday would not yet have occurred when the census was taken in 1860 and 1870, which is why the birth year is 1838 rather than 1839. Further evidence that the birth year is 1838 is that Lucy was 12 years old at the 1850 census. (RGB)
